This 10-week class is all about starting your puppy off on the right paw. Designed for puppies up to 6 months old (older pups may be allowed at trainer's discretion), we'll focus on creating calm, confident learners through positive reinforcement, thoughtful prevention and game-styled learning. Inspired by Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed®: The Puppy Program, this course blends foundational training with early socialization, emotional regulation, impulse control and proactive behavior support—helping you and your puppy develop a strong relationship and the tools to move through the world together with confidence. Get your new puppy off to the best start with some basic skills and cues such as sit, down, default stay, and loose leash walking. Learn why it is critical to socialize your puppy and the right way to do it. Topics to be discussed will include puppy behaviors, house breaking, coming when called, and crate training. Puppies with age-appropriate vaccines under the age of 6 months are welcome. Term: 6 weeks, 1 hour-long class per week Prerequisite: None Required equipment: Flat buckle collar with a 6 ft leash, treat pouch, and lots of high value treats like hotdogs, chicken breast, cheese. No e-collars, prong collars, no retractable or slip leads will be permitted in class. Saturdays 10:15-11:15AM. 6 Weeks 6/7-7/19 (No Class 7/5) ATTENTION: All students must fill out a training survey. Level: Intermediate As your dog is learning to become an adult and gain independence, they will likely become more independent and push the boundaries. During this adolescent stage, undesirable behaviors may worsen if your dog isn't being guided in the right direction with positive reinforcement training. This class is for dogs between 8 months and 2 years old who are jumping up on people, pulling on the leash, busting through doors, and exhibiting over-the-top rambunctiousness. Although these behaviors are normal and expected during this phase, you will learn methods to address them in a productive, positive, and fun way. We will use foundational behaviors such as handler focus, targeting, "leave it," and settling on a mat to help with an array of issues including distractions, jumping up, and chewing on inappropriate items. This class will give you insight into why your dog does the things they do. It will focus on learning life skills that form the building blocks for behavior. These skills will set you and your puppy up for a life of mutual respect and communication. Some topics covered are handling distractions, recall, stationing, relaxing in the presence of other dogs, and establishing comfort with grooming. As well as focusing on pattern games and the tools to give your dog the skills to cope with the world. We will also cover effective socialization using a deliberate focused method. This class is great for handling your over-excited pup, your shy pup, or as a preventive tool for reactivity. All dogs will have their own working stations. (Puppies under 1 year - other ages accepted based on availability in class and instructor approval) Thursdays 7:45-8:30 p.m. Eight weeks: 6/12-8/7 (No Class 7/3) ATTENTION: All students must fill out a training survey.
