Therapy Dog Essentials

Level: Advanced

Do you and your dog love people? Volunteering as an educational comfort dog pair or as a therapy dog team can be rewarding for both of you! Learn the basics and prepare for visiting schools, hospitals, and senior residences!

Please note: This is an advanced level course. Canine Good Citizen level of skill or Beginning and Intermediate courses are recommended as a prerequisite. Dogs who display behaviors consistent with leash reactivity or fear of people will be dismissed from this course and offered other opportunities for training.

A consultation with the trainer is highly recommended, prior to enrollment.

This class will cover the following skills:

Socialization to the sights and sounds encountered during visits.
Handler focus and Polite Greetings.
Relaxing in unfamiliar environments.
Review of sit and down duration/distance (stay).
Leash Walking with Distractions.
Automatic and cued "leave it"
Reading your dog's body language.
Caring for your dog's welfare in public situations.

Mondays 7:30-8:30 pm. Eight weeks: 7/7-8/25

All students must fill out a training survey.

Please provide proof of vaccinations ON or BEFORE the first night of class. Can now be uploaded at sign up, but not required. Vaccinations can also be emailed to training@coolcitydogs.com

Canine Good Citizen - Clicker Style!

Canine Good Citizen: Train Your Dog to be a Model Citizen!

Does your furry friend have what it takes to be a Canine Good Citizen?

This course, led by a certified evaluator, Dawn E Archer, will prepare your dog for the official CGC test. Through positive reinforcement training, your dog will master essential skills like:

Advanced loose leash walking: Heel like a pro without pulling!
Greeting strangers politely: No jumping or barking – just friendly wags.
Navigating a crowd with confidence: Stay calm and focused amidst distractions.
Polite behavior around other dogs: Staying neutral with other dogs close by.
And much more!

Open to dogs of all ages!
Prerequisite: Doggie Do Good Beginner Obedience or equivalent experience.

Bonus! The CGC test will be administered on the final night of class, so your dog can officially earn their title!**
