Dogs have always been a part of Gloria’s life and she began training seriously in 1988 having adopted a rescued Border Collie that had been abused. Obedience, then agility and even dog behavior were her main focus for a time especially when she adopted another rescued dog with aggression issues.
Along the way as a mom, Gloria spent numerous years helping her daughter through dance classes and recitals. Being artistic, she was a graphic designer/sign painter and commercial artist by trade and began designing and creating sets. All of that creative background was united with her love of dogs when she found freestyle and is now at the forefront so that she is a master at the inventive side of canine freestyle! One of the very first members of the active Michigan club, “Freestyle Fanatics”, she and her dogs have earned many awards including Highest Scoring Mixed Breed, High Scoring Rescue Dog, High Scoring Technical Merit & High Scoring Artistic Impression in Musical Freestyle and Heelwork to Music.
They have also earned Most Elegant Routine, Dog Having the Most Fun going on to the 2005 WCFO National where they tied for WCFO North American National Champion winning the High Technical Merit portion of the Championship. At WCFO’s 2006 International Pro Stars competitions, Gloria and her rescued Border Collie, Starr won Highest Scoring Live routine in MF, The Attila Challenge Award for Overall High Technical Merit, 1st Place Pro-Stars MF with the Highest Score overall in Pro-Stars, 1st Place Pro-Stars in HTM and even Best Opening Pose, & Best Collar!! International Whirl at the same event, High Artistic&Technical in Show, High HTM Artistic&Tech. in the show, High Combined HTM/MF in show, 1st place Advanced HTM&MF…. All in the same show.
She has earned an amazing total of 78 Gold, Silver & Bronze placement medals!
Gloria’s fellow freestylers have voted her the “Spirit of Freestyle” award at one event!
Gloria’s love for Freestyle also led her to take Judging workshops and work toward becoming a WCFO Freestyle Judge, which she did in becoming a certified WCFO Judge in April 2006. She now competes, judges and teaches classes, presents workshops, Dance Camp Weekends in Northern Michigan a Dog Scout Camp & private lessons in freestyle, while continuing to entertain and delight people of all ages with her demonstrations of freestyle at Fairs and Nursing Homes! The Freestyle Fanatics also voted her President of their club in the past for a 2 year term! Gloria and her dogs are also part of the group, “North Star K9 Dancers” that do many shows at Nursing Homes, Schools and Rescue events around the Mid-Michigan area.
Gloria currently has 3 dogs. All her dogs are rescues.
