AnnaBelle’s Pet Station Introduces the Day Care Depot!

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

AnnaBelle’s Pet Station introduces the Day Care Depot! Our Day Care Depot Open House is January 11, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. and we open for day care services on January 19, 2010!

iStock_000009096232XSmallWhy doggie day care? Well-socialized dogs are happier, healthier, and better-behaved. With doggie day care, high energy dogs will get the exercise and activity they need. We can help shy dogs come out of their shell, without being stressed or overwhelmed. With additional activity, socialization, and training, your dog will be more content, less stressed and problem behavior can be reduced.

Why AnnaBelle’s Day Care Depot? AnnaBelle’s is the only Ingham County doggie day care provider where the dogs are assigned play groups by size, temperament, and play style. AnnaBelle’s day care program is unique in the Greater Lansing area because it provides a structured day for your dog, which includes group play time, snack time, dog training activities, and rest periods consistent with your dog’s need for “den” time; AnnaBelle’s day care clients are also taken for outdoor walks at least twice a day. Animal behavior specialists highly recommend structure and rest periods, rather than “all day play.”

AnnaBelle’s Day Care Depot also offers small play groups, so that all of our canine clients have the opportunity to interact with staff and with each other safely and in a low-stress environment. Our day care activities are supervised by Dawn Pizzoferrato, a certified dog trainer, Carol Hein-Creger, a master trainer with more than 30-years of experience and Erinn Hadley, an experienced professional handler and trainer. All dogs must undergo temperament testing and approval by our training staff to participate in group play day care. Temperament testing will be available in advance of opening on Saturdays, January 9 and 16, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

AnnaBelle’s offers competitive pricing, multi-day discount packages, and a special discount for training and grooming clients. Training students and grooming clients who drop their dogs off for day care on the same day as a training class in which they are participating or on the same day as an appointment for grooming services, receive a 10% discount off the regular price of Day Care Depot services.

Join AnnaBelle’s Founding Furry Faces!

For the Grand Opening of AnnaBelle’s Day Care Depot, we are offering special discounted pricing for all multi-day passes purchased on or before January 11, 2010:

playdate115 day pass: $99 (regular price $129)

10 day pass: $199 (regular price $229)

20 day pass: $349 (regular price $399)

Day Care Depot Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, beginning January 19, 2010.

URGENT! CRITICAL FUNDING FOR EATON COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL IS AT RISK!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

H.E.A.R.T. (Helping Eaton Animals Resource Team) needs help to get as many people as possible to show up at the July 15th Eaton County Commissioners meeting at 7 pm. See:

http://www.eatoncounty.org/Board_of_Commissioners/Board_of_Commissioners_Agendas_And_Meeting_Minutes.htm

H.E.A.R.T.

H.E.A.R.T.

They are trying to cut all non-mandated services in Eaton County and will be removing these from the Eaton County Animal Control Ordinance.  http://www.eatoncounty.org/Assets/County+Clerk/Animal+Control+Ordinance.pdf

Right now, ECAC has Larry Green, ECAC Director;  Annie, the shelter attendant; and Becky and John as road officers. If there are no road officers, then who will pick up a cat or dog that was hit by a car and is still alive? Who is going to pick up a stray dog running through the neighborhoods that could be dangerous or harm someone’s pet or family? Who is going to respond to dogs chained outside with no food or water and starving? Also, what happens if someone calls in sick or is on vacation?

If they have road officers, but no staff at the kennel, then who will clean the kennels, feed and water the animals, and who will be there to allow the public to pick up their cat or dog that was inside the kennel? There won’t be anyone at the kennel to adopt out animals or to post pictures on the website. We will be going backwards and ECAC will be in a worse position than before the task force was started last year.

All Eaton County residents can speak during public comment time at the beginning of the meeting and people can leave afterward if they wish. Then there will be another public comment time at the end of the meeting.

We ask that you show respect for the commissioners, given the huge job they have to do to get the budget balanced. They are doing the best they can, but Eaton County residents need to advocate for ECAC and politely let them know our concerns. If you can’t make the meeting, please write or call your commissioners. http://www.eatoncounty.org/Board_of_Commissioners/Commissioner_Profiles.htm

Now is the time we need to speak up for Eaton County Animal Control and these poor animals!

Thank you for any help you can offer, H.E.A.R.T.

June 26, 2009 is the 10th Annual Take Your Dog to Work Day!!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Wish you could take your dog to work every day? Us too! Not everyone works with dogs every day, so there is a special day every year where thousands of businesses celebrate dog ownership and dog rescues by encouraging their employees to bring those pooches to the office! First celebrated in 1999, Take Your Dog To Work Day was created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event encourages employers to experience the value of pets in their workplace for this one special day to promote pet adoptions.

As recently written in Dog Fancy magazine, the event is quite popular all over the country, including right here in Michigan:

For the past four years, 6-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier Chloe has been going to work with her owner Christine Eluskie on Take Your Dog To Work Day. The moment they arrive at their destination, Chloe seems to know this isn’t just another typical outing. Instead, shes destined for a day of fun and games with other dogs and being spoiled by everyone at Village Green, the property management company in Farmington Hills, Mich., where Eluskie works.

Find out if your company can participate in this annual event just like the staff at Village Green in Farmington Hills, Mich., does. The office is staffed by 80 employees and at least 30 dogs showed up for the last event, Eluskie says. “It was like a doggie carnival. We go out of our way to make it as much fun for dogs, their owners, and for everyone else in the office. Everyone involved brings their pets bed, along with food and treats. Some even bring baby gates to ensure their pets don’t wander. I can tell that Chloe relishes every moment being by my side, and its reciprocal. At the same time, we are very mindful of co-workers who are allergic and possibly even afraid of dogs. * * * We believe that through this day, co-workers without pets get to witness the human-animal bond firsthand and are encouraged to adopt a dog of their own.”

So that all the dogs participating at Eluskies office event have a doggone good time, the company invites a dog massage therapist to come. The charge is $5 for a massage. Employees also make a $25 donation on behalf of their dog that benefits the Animal Placement Bureau, a local pet adoption organization in Lansing, Mich., Eluskie says. Eluskie also fosters dogs in her home, and co-workers who would like to take part but don’t have dogs of their own are allowed to adopt a foster dog for the day. “It’s worked out really well because we’ve actually had eight dogs find forever homes as a result,” Eluskie says.

Take Your Dog To Work Day was created by Pet Sitters International to celebrate the great companions dogs make. This annual event encourages employers to experience the value of pets in the workplace, even if just for one day! Ultimately, its about encouraging pet adoptions from shelters, humane societies and rescue groups. Pet Sitters International believes that people without dogs will see the loving bond their co-workers have with their pets and will consider adopting orphaned pets for their own.

Having trouble believing your boss will go for Take Your Dog to Work Day? Pet Sitters International offers the Top 10 Tips to help convince your boss to participate, among other resources:

Celebrate Earth Day With Your Pet!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Celebrate Earthday with Seven ways to Go Green with your Pet!

From PetSide.com

You recycle, buy organic and use eco-friendly products for yourself – shouldn’t your pet be green too? Petside has found 7 tips to help reduce your pet’s carbon “paw-print.”

1. Buy organic pet products

If you groom at home, use earth friendly grooming products that do not contain phosphates, sulfates and other chemicals that are harmful to the planet. Visit groomers that use these products too. Organic products are gentler on the environment, and your pet. You can also find stylish and organic collars and leashes.

Check out our natural rubber Busy Buddy toys at AnnaBelle’s!

2. Clean up after your pet

Leaving pet waste outside is an environmental and health hazard. Pet poo contains harmful bacteria that can enter the water system via storm drains. So be sure to pick up your dog’s waste and dispose of it in the trash, or better yet, a compost heap! For litter boxes, consider organic, plant based kitty litter. Clumping clay litter is strip-mined, a process which is horrible for our planet. And don’t forget to use biodegradable bags to dispose of waste instead of regular plastic bags!

3. Chemical-free pest products

You’d be shocked at the ingredients in some tick and flea control products. You won’t put toxic chemicals on your body, so leave products with active ingredients like chlorpyrifos, dichlorvos and phosmet off your pet’s body too. Look for pest control solutions that use natural ingredients, they can be just as effective without exposing your pet to toxins.

Check out www.getmint.com for a great pet-friendly cleaning alternative!

4. Adopt instead of buying

There are tens of thousands of puppies and kittens born in the U.S. every day. Controlling the pet population is always green, so why not adopt instead buying a new best friend?

Local rescue organizations offer pets in all shapes, sizes, ages, and breeds. You can easily find the dog or cat that is perfect for your family at the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, the Animal Placement Bureau, the Capitol Area Humane Society, the Eaton County Animal Control, or the Eaton County Humane Society.

5. Spay or neuter

Spaying or neutering pets is an important way to keep your pet healthy and avoid more homeless dogs and cats on the street. Sterilization also helps your pet live longer by reducing the risk of several types of cancer and prostate disease.

Capital Area Humane Society offers a low cost spay-neuter program all year!

6. Feed them all natural pet food

There are now many natural pet food options that are better for your pet and the planet. Avoid foods that contain meat raised with hormones and antibiotics and food containing animal by-products. Unless labeled “FDA Certified Food Grade” that chow contains ingredients not fit for human consumption. If you can eat it, do you really want your pet eating it?

AnnaBelle’s offers a complete selection of Life’s Abundance all-natural, top-quality food and treats for dogs and cats.

7. Environmentally friendly pet toys

Whether you make them or buy them, your pet will love the toys you give them, so try recycling! Something as simple as a piece of rope or paper bag can provide hours of fun. Old blankets and pillows can become a new bed for Fido to shed on. If you must buy, purchase items made from natural, recyclable materials, like hemp.

Check out our natural rubber Busy Buddy toys at AnnaBelle’s!
